The Hall of Melons

Description for Hall of Melons print:
I created this piece the very first week of quarantine. It was a time of feeling helpless. All my shows, that I had worked so hard to get into and obtain were now canceled. I got this image in my head of hanging up your “hats,” how would this look for people in a physical representation? For me my hats were, “showing artist” and “the reiki practitioner.” For my sister it was “the Barber,” for my mom it was “the hairdresser.” So many of us were hanging up our so called hats, in this case our masks. We were left with just us. Our only concern and focus was ourselves. I wanted to know what my own Hall of Melons would look like if I hung up all those identities and labels. I wanted to know if at the end of quarantine how many of those hats would we pick back up?
The name Hall of Melons came from one of my favorite animated shows, Adventure Time. One of the main characters tells a friend in a time of crisis to trust his “Melon Heart,” meaning his head/intuition. I love this saying and the idea of heads being called Melons😂
